Bagbin has no moral right to turn the people down – Aide

2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin

An Aide to the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, says it will be suicidal if he boss turns down calls by the people to serve them in a higher position than the office he is currently occupying.

“If these are calls for him to come and serve his people in a higher position, I don’t think he has the moral right to turn down his people,” Joseph Konuba noted in an interaction with TV3, on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

He was responding as to whether Hon. Bagbin is or not behind a campaign poster of himself which cropped up on Tuesday and is widely circulating on social media.

The said campaign poster has the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament embossed on it and announcing his readiness to contest for the flagbearership slot of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) when the party opens nominations.

It also has a white background with the honourable Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli/Kaleo constituency portrait picture with a beautiful smile pressed on it and with the inscription “Bagbin 2020”.

The poster has the slogan “Tried, Tested & committed” beneath it.

On the upper right hand corner of the poster is a well designed symbol of the NDC – the umbrella. Written beneath the umbrella is #ASK2020.

Konuba commenting further on the issue said his boss has no knowledge of the said campaign poster.

“He is absolutely not aware or in any way in the known of this poster cropping up. Yes, the issue has come to his attention just this afternoon (May 2, 2017) when I was also bombarded with a lot of calls over the campaign poster. His reaction is that he has noted the concerns of the people but he is saying that party faithful should concentrate right now on reorganizing the party,” he noted.

However, he said should the opportunity avail itself for Hon. Bagbin to serve Ghana in a higher position, he is optimistic that his boss will never turn it down.

“You know he is a grass root man and at this point of destination of NDC where we’ve just come out of a heavy defeat in elections, if the people are seeing him as the person who in the eight years of the party in opposition among notable people, took the party from opposition, served it and brought it to power, and at this point of destination the people are seeing that he is, yet the only opportunity, the only choice, the person who occupies the middle ground to lead the party to power, why not? He will avail himself to the people.”

“His call to politics has always been a call to duty. He was called in 1992 and he served his people since 1992 to date. Actually, every four years people call on him to continue to serve them. If the people of Ghana are calling on him to serve in a higher position, why not? He has always availed himself to serving the people and I don’t think it will be something different. He will not disappoint Ghanaians,” he posited.
