The President of the Ghana Football Association has confirmed that returnee coach of the Black Stars, Kwasi Appiah will have two assistants.

Sources say stop-gap Maxwell Konadu who served as an assistant during Appiah’s first stint between May 2012 and September 2014 is favoured by the Ghana FA to keep his job while the incoming coach has proposed Ibrahim Tanko as his first assistant.

According to Nyantakyi, the GFA has decided for the new direction due to Kwasi Appiah’s dual role when he assumes duties.

“There is a consideration for that because the head coach of the Black Stars will also be the head coach for the CHAN team so we thought that it will be wise for the person to have two assistants who will help in managing the two teams.

“We also think that these assistants should be people who are capable of taking up the mantle one day. Based on the discussions with him, we will consider certain positions… Nobody has been appointed as yet.

“We are the appointing authority. We will appoint him and whoever he wants to work with. But there’s nothing wrong with the coach recommending certain people to positions… we will have a meeting that will smoothen all the rough edges for him to take off,” the GFA boss said after Tuesday’s Executive Committee meeting which approved the re-appointment of Appiah.

Kwasi Appiah officially starts his two-year journey on May 1.
