Seven Ghanaians advance to quarter final stage of McDan Open

Seven Ghanaian tennis players have advanced to the quarter finals of the ongoing Mcdan Open West Africa Championship.

The seven include four men and three women, who stood their grounds to win their games despite the tough challenges they faced.

Leading the pack of players to the quarter finals is 16-year-old Cindy Aidoo from Winneba, who brushed aside stiff competition from the 2016 Mcdan Open West Africa championship semi-finalist Fustina Tagoe in a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 victory on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium Tennis Court.

Among the women qualifiers are Annette Cruickshank and Mariama Ibrahim.

In the men's singles, Ghana's No. 1, Wisdom Na-Adjrago beat his fellow Ghanaian, Andrews Adu Appiah 6-1, 6-2, whilst Bernard Dugbah defeated Reginald Okantey 6-2, 6-2.

Bernard Armah Ashitey ousted Isaac Titriku 6-3, 6-1 with Jeff Bagerbaseh also dumping Pascal Alome Ziyab's out of the tournament by beating him 6-1, 6-3

Names of qualified players and their respective countries are as follows: Ghana- Men Category- Wisdom Na-Adjrago, Jeff Bagerbaseh, Bernard Ashitey Armah and Bernard Dugbah.

From Togo are Thomas Setodji and Jean Kandangah, with Joel Meda and Felix Hounkpevi from Ivory Coast and Benin respectively.

In the Women Category Ghana's Cindy Aidoo, Annette Cruickshank and Emma Cudjoe are through with Nigeria's Sarah Adegoke, Lizzy Airhunmwunde and Angela Macleod.

The rest are Follykuaye Esperance from Benin and Kouadio Amandine from Ivory Coast.
