Judges apparel scares MP

Accra, March 5, GNA - The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast, Miss Christine Churcher on Friday appealed to the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General to do something about the apparel of Judges.

She said: "I am appealing to the Minister to have a second look at the dress of the Judges because I get scared when I see them in their long red robe and white wig."

The Member made the appeal when contributing to a motion for the approval of an amount of 130.4 billion cedis to the Judicial Service for the 2004 fiscal year.

Mr Stephen Balado Manu, MP for Ahafo-Ano South, also urged lawyers to modernise their language to suit modern trends. He said sometimes the terminology used by lawyers such as "My Lord, My Lord" made an accused to feel already condemned.
