Otiko Djaba courts Upper West chiefs to fight child marriage

Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba, has appealed to the chiefs in Upper West Region to support her to end child marriage and discrimination among children.

She told them educating their children will be the best investment for them than the cows and motorbikes they receive in exchange of giving their children out for marriage.

Ms Adisa Djaba made the appeal while addressing the chiefs at the Wa Naa Palace when she paid a courtesy call on the paramount chief of Waala Traditional area, Naa Fuseni Seidu Pelpuo II.

The Minister was on a two-day working familiarization visit to the region. She underscored the need for the chiefs to support her to successfully fight child marriage and discrimination among children in the region

Meanwhile at ceremony to interact with queen mothers in the region, she urged those who have not had formal education to enroll in the adult education programme.

She also interacted with some beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (leap) Programme at the Wa Municipal Assembly.
