NSS boss pays surprise working  visit to Dawhenya Farms

The Executive Director of the National Service Scheme Mustapha Ussif on Thursday visited the schemes farms Dawhenya in the Greater Accra region to witness first hand challenges and how the Scheme can maintain superiority among its peers in the same industry.

According to him, the visit was also aimed at acquainting himself with the situation on the farm hinting that similar visits will take place at Ejura farm in the Ashanti Region and other areas where the NSS has farms.

The scheme has farms at Ejura, West Legon, Komenda, Nungua, Dawhenya. We engage in farming, piggery, poultry, and fish farming among others.

On the Tema–Aflao road is located the Dawhenya Agriculture Project of the National Service Scheme. The 500 acres of land was leased to the NSS for the production of maize and vegetables in 2011. The scheme is also undertaking fish farming on the Dawhenya Lake with four cages, capable of holding 20,000 fingerlings of tilapia.

The farm has 5 Tractors and accessories, 2 Combined Harvesters, 2 six-row planters, 1 Grain Dryer, 1 Toyota Hilux Pick-up, 1 SML 5-Tonner Truck.

The farm has the potential to produce 6,000 bags of maize annually and 40,000 tilapia if the right management practices are taken and adequate resources provided at the right time.
