The regent of Bimbilla, Nyelingboligu Naa Yakubu Andani, who happens also to be the son of the late Bimbila Naa Naa Andani Dasana Yakubu, has expressed confidence in the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration to provide a sustainable solution to the chieftaincy litigation in the Nanum Traditional Area.

He also expressed gratitude to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for appointing two of his sons – Dominic Nitiwul and Saaed Salifu – to the high offices of the Defence and Regional Minister respectively. Nyelingboligu Naa made this known when the Northern Regional Minister Saaed Salifu together with his deputy, Solomon Boar, visited his palace in Bimbilla.

The visit by the ministers forms the last phase of their familiarization tour of the Northern Region since they both assumed office.

The Minister, Saaed Salifu, addressing the regent and his elders reiterated government’s pledge not to interfere in chieftaincy issues, adding that the presidency do not determine who is enskinned as a chief. Thus, he further said, it will continue to stay clear off chieftaincy issues especially in Nanum. The team accompanied by the heads of security services in the Northern Region and some constituency and regional executives of the ruling party also engaged the Nakapaa side of the feuding factions.

Again, the minister revealed it does not lie in his powers to select who becomes a chief. Mr Saaed Salifu called for total acceptance of the rule of the traditional council within whose preserve chiefs are selected.
