The Police in Accra have confirmed that they have arrested one person in connection with violent clashes at Agbogbloshie that resulted in the death of two persons and left several persons with varying degrees of injuries.

According to the Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur security has been tightened at the place to avert a recurrence but disclosed that police are conducting further investigations into the incident to apprehend those behind the latest violence.

Though he will not disclose the identity of the suspect they have arrested, he indicated that uneasy calm has returned to the trouble scene with residents going about their normal activities.

Renewed violent clashes between two northern ethnic groups left 2 dead and many severely injured including a pregnant woman, who is said to be in critical condition.

One account of the cause of the latest clash is that a member of one ethnic group stole a phone owned by the other ethnic group.

The suspected thief was beaten up but he mobilised people from his ethnic group for a retaliation which degenerated into a free for all fight between the two ethnic groups.
