Accra will be a smart city devoid of chaos and filth - New MCE

New Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Chief Executive Mohammed Adjei Sowah, has promised to transform the capital city in conformity with the vision of President Akufo-Addo.

He said he will make Accra a sustainable smart city devoid of chaos and filth to represent the capital status of the city.

The Mayor said this in an acceptance speech after an overwhelming victory by Assembly Members in an election held yesterday at the AMA office.

Out 111 votes cast, the nominee, Mohammed AdjeiSowah polled 109 yes votes and two no votes.

He thanked Allah for his guidance and support towards the election and also for showing him favour.

He mentioned that he will outline his vision for the city in the coming days and also called on the assembly members to support him to develop the capital city.

“I call on Assembly Members to work with me and I’ll also work with you. I’ll also outline my vision in the coming days in accordance with the intent of President Nana Addo,” he said.

He also stated that he’ll consult and work with previous Mayors thus Stanley AdjiriBlankson and Alfred OkoVanderpuije who were present to offer their support to him.

Also present were the Acting Secretary General of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr John Boadu, Greater Accra rep to the Council of State, KoteiDzanie, Members of Parliament (MP) like; Jerry Ahmed and Ahmed Arthur.

Speaking in an interview with The Finder, former mayor and MP for Ablekuma South, Alfred OkoVanderpuije congratulated the mayor on his election.

He said he’ll be available to offer the needed counselling whenever he is called upon and offer his services to the development of the capital city.

He wished the nominee well in his new capacity and added that he was confident of the mayor’s ability to deliver.

Mohammed AdjeiSowah was also sworn into office after the results were declared.
