Prioritize investment in pitches – Emmanuel Dasoberi

Chairman of the Ghana FA’s Club Licensing Board (CLB), Emmanuel Dasoberi has charged local clubs to see football as a business venture and channel resources towards its growth in the country.

According to him, “clubs are not investing a lot back into the game.”

His comment comes as a result of the ever deteriorating standard of playing fields in Ghana’s domestic club competitions. The Ghana Premier League this season has seen games honoured on very poor pitches which his board approved of. With accusing fingers pointed towards his office, Dasoberi has explained these pitches were of an appreciable standard at the time of inspection, hence their approval.

“With all due respect, football is a huge business enterprise and they must look at it in that regard.

“…we are not able to grow our pitches but we have the money to be celebrating centenary anniversaries and all that and we cannot boast of anything,” Dasoberi bemoaned in an interview with Starr Sports.

He added: “For my personal view, I think that it is saddening. We must grow up our game. If players are playing on good pitches, it will have an effect on all of us [sic].”

The Ghana FA Club Licensing Board has decided to review the pitches used for the ongoing 2016/17 Ghana Premier League especially. Many clubs risk playing their home matches away from home should the Club Licensing Board wield the axe when it meets today, March 14.
