Lord Commey, a member of the Ghana @ 60 anniversary celebrations, says individuals from all walks life have been factored into the country’s diamond jubilee celebrations to reflect what Ghana stands for.

Lord Commey, a member of the Ghana @ 60 anniversary celebrations, says individuals from all walks life have been factored into the country’s diamond jubilee celebrations to reflect what Ghana stands for.

This, he explained, was in line with the theme for the anniversary: “Mobilizing for Ghana’s Future.”

Lord Commey was speaking at a media interaction at the Presidency yesterday, where activities earmarked for the year-long celebrations were outlined.

“The representatives of all the religious sects in the country are part of this planning committee now,” he said, adding that the initial committee number of thirty had been increased to forty.

He mentioned that representatives from the Chief Imam’s Office, Churches and market women associations were all involved in the planning of the celebrations to make it unique and worth remembering.

Mr Commey again stressed that the committee would go about its activities in a transparent manner, as pointed out by the President when he inaugurated the committee.

He said the offices of the committee were still open to individuals and organizations who embody innovative and creative ideas that would enhance the planning of events for the much anticipated celebration.

“One reason we have done this is because it involves the whole country and in line with the theme. As we mobilize for Ghana’s future, we are putting up some ideas by way of events. So our doors are still not closed,” he said.

He revealed that the year-long event entails a lot of activities and called on the media to assist the committee in publicizing the programmes in order to sensitize citizens on them.

Jefferson Sackey, chairman of the media committee, unveiled the ‘iPledgeGh’ campaign, as aspect of the celebration aimed at involving Ghanaians through social media platforms like Facebook, whatsapp, twitter and instagram.

He disclosed that the nine-member media committee is made up of individuals with vast experience in the media and communication fields, stressing that a strategic plan was created and approved by the planning committee.

“The media publicity and branding committee of ‘Ghana; 60 Years on,’ was formed to plan, generate ideas and advise the national committee on how best to promote this year’s independence anniversary,” he said.

The campaign, he said, is to remind all Ghanaians of who they are as a people and that if they are committed to the same values, “then they can work together to achieve the same goals and revive the Ghanaian spirit.”

“It has the aim at spreading a broad change of attitude or mindset in all parts of the country and giving citizens to pledge their support to help build a desirable nation,” he added.

He called on Ghanaians to share their pledges online by using the #IpledgeGh to post videos and pictures on their personal social media accounts, to support the campaign and engage in activities that depict nation building.
