Asantehene Cited For Contempt

The enstoolment of Nana Omanhene Boateng Twum II as the Paramount Chief of Nyinahin Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region has entangled the Manhyia Palace, the highest traditional authority in Asanteman, in a case of contempt.

A High Court in Kumasi presided over by His Lordship Justice Kwame Ansu-Gyeabuo granted an ex-parte motion for leave to apply for an order for committal for contempt against five persons including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and Nana Boateng Twum II. The rest are, the Abusuapanin Dwumaa Bosompim of Nyinahin, the Registrar and Filling Clerk of the Kumasi Traditional Council.

Nana Kwadwo Konadu, a Kumasi-based farmer and Head of the Amea Anum House and Kingmaker of the Aduana Clan of Nyinahin, filed the application of the motion, supported by a 15 paragraph sworn affidavit. Nana Konadu is represented by an Accra based legal practitioner, W.A.N. Adumoa-Bossman.

Reliefs being sought by Nana Konadu are, a joint and several order of committal of all the five respondents to a prison term for their contempt of the Judicial Committee of the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC).

The Plaintiff is also praying the court to declare as null and void the enstoolment of Nana Boateng Twum II (known in private life as Paul Aborah Boateng, former Head of Material Management at the Ghana Post in Accra).
