SSNIT To prosecute 806 Firms

SSNIT will begin the prosecution of 806 companies in the Kumasi Metropolis that owes it next month if they fail to pay their debts.

As at the end of December last year, the companies owed it a total of ?5.4 billion.

According to the Area Manager, Mr. Ahmed Mahamadu “the debt is the total amount of contributions of the employees of these companies, deducted from their salaries but not paid to SSNIT”.

He declined however to reveal the identities of the indebted companies, saying that the SSNIT head office was compiling a list for publication by the end of this month.

According to him such drastic steps had to be taken now since the Trust had written reminders to the companies on numerous occasions demanding that they pay up, but they had failed to do so.
