The New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Lower Manya Krobo in the 2016 polls, Samuel Teddy Nuertey Ayertey, has rescinded his decision to challenge results of the election in court upon the advice of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Mr Ayertey had earlier declared his intention to contest the outcome of the polls in court claiming widespread irregularities. But speaking to Class News, he said the legal team of the NPP had reviewed the results and concluded that a court action on the matter was needless.

“I reported the whole case to the regional executives who gave me a legal team. Along the line, while the lawyers were reviewing the whole case, Nana Akufo-Addo and some lawyers asked me to withdraw the case. For the sake of peace for my people over here, I don’t want to litigate; I will hold on for the future,” he stated.

He further explained that during his Thank You tour at Manya Krobo, Nana Akufo-Addo personally called on him to withdraw the case hence his decision not to litigate.

“Nana Akufo-Addo came here to thank the people of Manya Krobo and he called me to hold on. [He said] I shouldn’t go to court,” Mr Ayertey said.

He debunked suggestions that he rescinded his decision because he would have lost the case in court. According to him, litigation would derail development in the constituency.

Mr Ayertey, who polled 19,383 votes, lost the election to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Terlabi Ebenezer Okletey, who polled 19,710.
