Reception held to mark three years of positive change

Accra, Jan. 7, GNA - A reception was held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra on Wednesday for a cross-section of the public as part of activities marking the celebration of 11 years of the Fourth Republic and three years of Positive Change.

President John Agyekum Kufuor accompanied by the First Lady, Theresa Kufuor, Vice President Aliu Mahama and his wife Ramatu Mahama were among the dignitaries that included Ministers, Parliamentarians, politicians and members of the diplomatic corps.

They were entertained to cultural display and dance by the Police band and the Ghana dance Ensemble of the University of Ghana, Legon. Earlier during the day, a People's Assembly, under the theme "Good Governance Through Democracy-Three Years of Positive Change", was held at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The assembly offered the people an opportunity to interact with the Executive arm of government on pertinent national issues. Regional and District People's Assemblies would be held nation-wide between January 8 and January 22.

Other activities planned for the celebration were an all night prayer session scheduled for Friday, January 9 and special fun games to be organized at the El-Walk stadium on Saturday, January 10.

The special quests of honour at the fun games would be Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Vice President and Professor John Evans Atta-Mills, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

On Sunday, January 18 a super gospel rock show to feature about 25 leading gospel artistes would be held at the Accra Sports Stadium. The activities would end on Friday January 30 with an interaction between the Minister of Information, the media.
