Jubilant NPP supporters lockup NADMO office in Damongo

Some youth of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the West Gonja District of the Northern region have locked up the offices of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

Officials of NADMO were not in the office at the time of the incident because it occurred during the weekend

The latest incident comes barely 24 hours after executives of the party in the area also sealed off offices of Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in what many have described as ‘show of power’

Despite caution from the national hierarchy of the party for the youth mostly referred to as foot soldiers to conduct themselves well prior to the swearing in, some of them see their action as payback for what they received in 2009.

Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said his outfit has no full facts on the conduct of the party supporters who are embarking on seizing spree.

Meanwhile on Saturday morning, another incident occurred at Changli in the Tamale metropolis where NPP youth stormed a public toilet facility demanding that the caretaker render accounts to them instead. But a youth chairman of the same party, Ali Yahaya asked them to go back to where they are coming from and look for a public toilet there because his members can also manage the facility in question.

When the outgoing NDC government took over governance in 2009 similar incidents occurred in the Tamale metropolis leaving many wondering if these were the jobs most of the political parties promised their followers.

Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Daniel Bugri Naabu has however warned that any member of the party who engages in violence has the law to contend with.

“I will not be part of any violent attack and seizure of public property by my youth, this morning I had to rush to SADA to stop some of the NPP youth from seizing the office, why should they do that, if they want jobs, they should exercise patience after January they will get jobs to do”.
