Kufuor's performance is the trump card for Elections

Accra, Jan.5, GNA - Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Press Secretary to the President, on Monday said President John Agyekum Kufuor's personal conduct and performance were his trump cards that would make him to win Elections 2004.

He said President Kufuor had given meaning to his 2001 declaration to be a fair and even-handed Leader with sincere sense of fellow feeling.

A statement issued in Accra by the Office of the Press Secretary said President Kufuor in an earlier interview with Miss Opeibia Quist; a BBC Correspondent, said his deeds and policies would win Elections 2004 for him.

He said President Kufuor's achievements in demystifying Government business and making public officials servants of the public instead of demigods could not be ignored easily.

He said President Kufuor's liberal mindedness and his denouncement of the use of fear as instrument of power was commendable and a factor that would complement the Government's economic policy and return it to power.

Mr Agyepong, who is also the Presidential Spokesman, said the performance of the economy would not be the only platform but also the growing open administration; stable internal security as evidenced in the drastic decline in the crime rate; favourable food situation and the all time second highest cocoa production and the absence of protracted industrial unrests all go to make 2003 a good year.

He reiterated President Kufuor's pledge to a peaceful, free and fair election adding that the President would not place his political ambitions above national interest.
