Muslim prayers mark Fourth Republican anniversary celebrations

Accra, Jan. 2, GNA - Muslims held prayer sessions nation-wide on Friday, January 2 as part of activities marking 11 years of the Fourth Republic and Three years of Positive Change. The celebrations began with the radio and television broadcast of President John Agyekum Kufuor's New Year's message last Wednesday, December 31.

Detailed programme drawn for the celebrations, released and signed by Mr D.A. Kwapong, Acting Director of the Information Services Department, gave the theme for the celebrations as: "Good Governance Through Democracy-Three Years of Positive Change".

The activities continue on the evening of Friday, January 2 with an all-night musical show at the Independence Square that would feature about 25 top highlife and hip-life artistes.

On Sunday, January 4, Christian church services would held to say prayers for the nation and the climax of the activities would be the National People's Assembly to be held on Wednesday, January 7 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

President Kufuor would address the opening session of the assembly to be held after a photo-exhibition on the achievements of the Government at the foyer of the Centre and in the evening of the same day there would be a state reception at the forecourt of the State House. Regional and District People's Assemblies would be held nation-wide between January 8 and January 22.

The release said an all night prayer session would be held on Friday, January 9 and special fun games organized at the El-Walk stadium on Saturday, January 10.

The Special Guests of Honour at the fun games would be; Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Vice President and Professor John Evans Atta-Mills, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

On Sunday, January 18 a Super Gospel Rock Show would be held and it would feature about 25 leading Gospel artistes at the Accra Sports Stadium in the afternoon.

The activities would end on Friday January 30 with an interaction between the Minister of Information, the media and the sponsors.
