Maintain support for NDC-Iddi

Kpando (Volta Region), Jan. '99 --

Alhaji Seidu Iddi, Volta Regional Minister, has called on people in the region to ensure the return of the National Democratic Congress government to power in the 2000 elections in order not to halt the region's development. Alhaji Iddi was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people in the Kpando district at Kpando yesterday as part of his regional tour. He said the region's patience and loyalty to the government and the NDC should ''not end in anti-climax now that the region's development expectations are about to be concretised by the government''. Alhaji Iddi said the government has achieved an appreciable level of infrastructural development in the region but it would offer more when it is returned to power. This is evident in the creation of a special committee on Volta region roads headed by the vice-president Professor John Atta Mills in response to popular dissatisfaction to the region's road development network. Alhaji Iddi said the common concern for the region's development expressed by all segments of the people has provided him with a strong case to pursue its development programmes to the highest level of government and called continued peace to facilitate this goal The Regional Minister earlier addressed heads of departments in the district and called for their loyalty to the development of the district saying they should avoid negative attitudes to work. Miss Akua Dansua, Kpando District Chief Executive, announced that Ghana Telecom will install a 500 telephone lines for Kpando this year. She said there is cordial relationship between the assembly and its partners but conceded that a few chieftaincy and land problems had undermined the district's efforts of ensuring the total unity and peace needed for development.
