According to President John Dramani Mahama, the election petition by the opposition New Patriotic Party shortened his term in office to just 3 years.

In 2012, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP dragged the NDC to the Supreme Court in a bid to challenge the results of the presidential elections.

John Mahama reiterated at Asankragwaa in the Amenfi West District, how the petition dragged on and stopped him from executing his duties.

“2012 after elections, like joke like joke our brothers said they would not accept the outcome. I even thought they were joking, before we could say jack they were in court”, he said.

He added, “for almost a year we were battling it out at the Supreme Court. Until finally the Supreme Court said let the young man go and enjoy his Presidency declaring the elections free and fair and legitimate”.

The president therefore stated he used only 3 years to complete his self-touted achievements.

‘‘So truly speaking, we used only three years to do all the massive works you are seeing. I believe it’s God who gives power. It’s God who crowns a king. I know it’s not because of my wisdom, my strength or my handsomeness, it’s God [who made me President]”, John Mahama added.

President Mahama is optimistic he will be retained based on the massive infrastructure projects his government has embarked on over the last four years.
