Dubai reference to Circle flyover worrying – Lecturer

Kwame Nkrumah Interchange Kwame Nkrumah Interchange

The reference to the newly built Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra as Dubai will go a long way to make the edifice lose its original identity if the situation is not reversed immediately, Dr Kobby-Mensah, a lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, has said.

The flyover, which was inaugurated by President John Mahama earlier this week, has been described as the new Dubai in Accra due to the ultra-modern features it possesses.

Mr Mahama stated on the day of the inauguration that it would help ease vehicular congestion drastically on the various road networks that connect to the interchange.

But Dr Mensah, also a political marketing strategist, has observed that the continuous referral of the edifice as Dubai by drivers’ mates does not augur well for the brand identity of the edifice, a situation that requires that the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) intervenes quickly before it gets out of hands.

He tweeted: “GPRTU & other transport unions must help stop the name "Dubai" being used by drivers' mates to reference Nkrumah Circle to avoid name loss.”
