Chief Justice petitioned to televise Woyome’s cross-examination

A private citizen, Richard Asante Yeboah, has petitioned Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood to allow a live broadcast of a scheduled cross-examination of businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome.

The petition follows a Supreme Court order granting former Attorney General Martin Amidu the opportunity to orally cross-examine the businessman and NDC financier after the Attorney General’s office decided to discontinue an application for an oral examination of the businessman.

But even before the process can begin, a private citizen has written to the Chief Justice seeking a live broadcast of the proceedings to ‘bolster the confidence in the country’s legal system’





According to Richard Asante Yeboah, a telecast of the oral examination will afford the citizenry the chance to follow the process in real time thereby avoiding misinformation in sections of the media.

He adds that the move will also bring ‘full transparency and further update the good people of Ghanaon how our tax-cedi was expended in this woyome debacle.”

Anti-corruption campaigner and former Attorney General Martin Amidu on Wednesday November 16 got the all clear by the Supreme Court to cross-examine Alfred Woyome in a bid to assist the state in the retrieval of some 51 million Ghana Cedis illegally paid to the businessman.

But Alfred Woyome who has agreed to pay the said amount in tranches insists the Supreme Court is persecuting him and opening him up to public ridicule.
