Mahatma Otoo hails late EK Afranie: 'I was his trusted striker'

Ghanaian striker Mahatma Otoo has hailed the influence of the late coach EK Afranie on his career.

The former national coach Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie passed away after a tragic accident in Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi highway.

The former national team handler was being transferred to Kumasi from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after suffering a mild stroke last month.

Otoo in a post on Facebook eulogised Afranie for the confidence and trust he reposed in him when he was a youngster.

The Sogndal man posted: “A hat-trick and a brace within a fortnight at the grassless Indadfa Park in a national Div 1 league games for St Mirren prompted the celebrated coach E K Afranie to extend an invitation to the Black Starlets in 2008,” he posted on his Facebook page.

“I was his trusted striker, and he took special interest in my career advancement through the Black Satellites and Black Meteors, in natural progression.

“I am aware of the pain he caused to some people, and the subsequent hatred I had, when he strongly recommended to late Jordan Anagblah to appoint me captain of the B Satellites 2yrs on.

“Perhaps if he was in charge, WHO KNOWS WHAT NEXT?

“Nana,I will forever be grateful to you, even in death. I salute you and may your soul rest in peace.”
