An Accra High Court has ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) and the All People’s Congress (APC) to file their written statements of case by Friday, October 28, in order for the party’s challenge of the EC’s disqualification of flag bearer Hassan Ayariga to be heard on Monday, October 31.

The presiding judge, Justice Barbara Tetteh-Charway, indicated on Wednesday, October 26, that the abridgment of time was to expedite action on the case.

The party believes its flag bearer was wrongfully disqualified by the election management body, hence the court action.

The APC is one of 12 parties whose flag bearer was disqualified from contesting for president. Already, the court has set October 28 to rule on a similar suit brought against the EC by the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and its flag bearer Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom.

Other disqualified parties including the National Democratic Party (NDP), the Independent People’s Party, and the People’s National Convention (PNC) are also lining up suits against the EC over what they believe is wrongful disqualification.
