Flights at risk as Meteo staff declare strike

Workers of the Ghana Meteorological Agency at the Kotoka International Airport have begun an indefinite strike.

The workers are protesting government’s inability to address the Amendement of the agencies act 682 of 2004.

The strike is likely to lead to flight delays at the airport since they are the primary source of weather information.

A statement issued jointly by Papa Nii Cleg, Divisional Union Chairman and Robert Cudjoe, Divisional Union Secretary said: “We have been pushed into this action because Government has failed to address our issues raised as far back at 2013.”

The statement noted their major concern is with the amendment of GMET ACT 682 of 2004, on which stakeholders have had a number of deliberations but the Ministry of Communications had failed to fulfill its obligation.

“Our decision is irrevocable until the said Act has been amended,” the release said.
