I feel sad listening to radio nowadays - Listowel Yesu Bukarson

A Former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Listowel Yesu Bukarson has bemoaned over what he described as mediocrity practised by a section of Ghanaian Journalists.

According to him, radio is no more exciting as it used to be and that the industry lacks professionals who have the passion to do the job.

He observed that cheap labour by media employers is killing the industry, arguing that there is massive abuse of radio.

Mr. Burkarson indicated that the Ghanaian media system is run on ‘Square pecks in round holes’ describing it as ‘despicable’.

The defeated parliamentary hopeful said wars have destroyed many nations due to the misuse of microphones by Journalists.

He wondered why some Journalists use their medium to incite people just to score cheap political points for politicians.

Speaking on Abusua FM’s Church bells hosted by Ike De-Unpredictable, he lashed out at Journalists for living in a state of oblivion that their microphones cannot cause the untoward in the country.

‘Previously radio was exciting and the job paid off, and people appreciated your works if you do a good job, sadly enough, radio is not too exciting now because most of the journalists are not professionals, cheap labour by employers is killing the momentum and excitement in the industry, I feel sad to listen to radio, looking at where I am coming from, and the training we have gone through.

We have examples of how the media has destroyed or made the world, before you sit on the microphone, you know as thought in school that the microphone or pen is mightier than the sword, so if you joke with it, you can create a disaster. The second biggest genocide in the world that happened in Rwanda many people died …., if you watch the movie titled Hotel in Rwanda, you will know how powerful the radio is,’ he said.
