Prof. Martey has been exposed by the Holy Spirit – Ofosu Ampofo

The National Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo believes the Holy Spirit has revealed the true nature of the outgoing Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey following his recent baseless claims.

The respected but controversial and outspoken cleric who has received huge flak in the past few days after first alleging that some politicians tried bribing his with $100,000 to gag him, last week also claimed government officials attempted to lobby him to be Chairman of the Peace Council, adding that although the Christian Council nominated him to be on the Council, he had gut feeling about taking the position.

He alleged that the deputy Interior minister James Agalga called him and made the offer.

“So I told God about it. I don’t do anything without first consulting my friend the Holy Spirit. Few days to the inauguration of the Peace Council, I had a missed call; I didn’t know the person so I didn’t call back.

“So the person sent a text message, it was the Deputy Minister of Interior, [James] Agalga. So immediately something said call so I called back. He was then at the house so he came out.

“First I said, ‘yes, this is the Rev. Prof. Martey, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana,’ but you know something, the Holy Spirit blinded his mind so he didn’t even hear that it was the Presby Moderator who was talking to him.

“The Holy Spirit wanted him to tell me what he has for me, to help me decide whether or not to be a member of the Peace Council. He said he had a meeting with the Minister of Interior and they both agreed that I become the Chairman of the Peace Council,” Rev. Martey said.

However, Hon. Ofosu Ampofo believes the outgoing Moderator will do the highly respected church and his self a great deal of good, if he desists from making such claims without backing them with evidence.

“I was raised in the Presbyterian Church and several of my relatives are Presbyters (Elders) and I can attest to the discipline that comes with Presbyterian training. I think that the Moderator’s continuous effusions is bringing the Presby church to its lowest ebb. It will be better if he remains silent in his own interest. He claims he’s been speaking with the Holy Spirit…sometimes the Holy Spirit will expose you, because the things he’s been saying in recent times is unbecoming of a religious leader.

He added: “We have had several Moderators of this great church, I remember the father of KSM, Revds. Sintim Misa, A.A Berko, I.H Frimpong, Sam Prempeh and Frimpong Manso, the Presby church has been held in high esteem, where this man is leading the church is a big source of worry for all of us. If he now wants to do politics, he should announce that he has retired from the gospel ministry and is now a politician with his cassock removed and replaced with his political cloak, so that we can all come into the political arena to talk.”
