Ex-First Lady Goes Begging?

MINISTER ASSERTS … NANA KONADU GOES BEGGING! … TO DISGRACE JAK’S ADMINISTRATION

Apparently, in order to destroy the image of the Kufuor administration internationally and bring the Presidency into disrepute, the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has turned herself into a beggar, soliciting funds in some foreign countries to cure her alleged ailment.

This assertion was made by Mr. Kwadwo Adjei Darko, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Sunyani, last week at a forum organised by Senior Minister and MP for Sunyani East, Mr. J.H. Mensah, to explain government policies to the people of his constituency.

According to the Hon. Adjei Darko, the former First lady and President of the 31st December Women Movement, recently visited one of the developed countries and approached the First lady of that country for funds to cure her alleged sickness.

According to him, Nana Konadu, with a brace around her neck, pretending she was having some sickness in it, begged for money to help her cure it. The Minister revealed that, the former First lady, during the NDC regime, was able to secure $50,000 from the same First lady.

The Minister, however, declined to mention the name of the country Nana Konadu had gone to, to indulge in this shameful soliciting, because of diplomatic reasons, he said.

This behaviour, according to the Local Government Minister, does not augur well for the country’s dignity, He expressed regret that all the NPP government was doing for Nana Konadu and her husband, did not satisfy the NDC members, hence the lies being peddled at the international circles to win favour in those countries.

Another propaganda said to have been unearthed by the NPP Government, according to the minister, was a diabolic plan by the NDC to burn down the forests to destroy the commendable afforestation program undertaken by the NPP government.

Hon. Darko hinted that intelligence report reaching the government indicated that, the NDC has decided to locate its members around the country’s forest areas to set them on ablaze in order to thwart the efforts of the government.

The minister therefore appealed to the general public to be alert and check this looming menace.

Hon. Darko also warned the NDC that, whatever propaganda machinery they were adopting, the NPP was prepared to face them.

He cautioned the District Chief Executives and members of the various district assemblies to be red alert to arrest any person preparing to start any bushfires.

He warned the law would deal ruthlessly with any one who would be caught in such a wicked act.

Hon. Adjei Darko went on and announced that, the legislative instrument to create new districts has been completed, awaiting the approval of the President. The Minister said in all, 19 new districts have been created. The Brong Ahafo region, according to the minister, has a great number of districts with two districts in the region elevated to municipal status.

The two districts elevated were the Sunyani and the Techiman Districts.

The newly created districts in the region were Kintampo, Jaman, Wenchi, Atebubu and Asunafo, which were all divided into two districts.

He said the only district that could not get an approval from the government was the Tano district, due to its population size.

On the Acheresua- Atronie-Sunyani road, which is under Construction, an initial contract sum of ?45 billion voted for it, according to Hon J.H. Mensah, has now being increased to ?75 billion due to some changes made in the original designs of the road.

He told his constituents that, the new contract sum had not being budgeted for, but hoped it would be included in the next budget.

The Snr. Minister assured the people that, the road would be completed as scheduled.

The two ministers availed themselves for questions concerning the policies of the government.

When the Snr. Minister was asked whether he would stand again as MP for Sunyani East, he wouldn’t say yes or no, and only said, time would decide.
