AngloGold, Ashanti extend date for deal conclusion

World number two gold miner AngloGold (ANG) and Ghana's Ashanti Goldfields today announced that they had jointly agreed to extend the deadline of November 14 to December 12 to conclude the merger agreement entered into in early August.

The two groups are looking to merge and form a gold company that would challenge US gold miner Newmont, currently world number one.
