Hungary to invest massively in Ghana

Hungary is exploring the renewal energy, water management, IT, waste management, agriculture and food processing sectors in Ghana, in order to build strong investment projects in the country.

Mr Andra’s Seabo, Hungary Ambassador to Ghana, with additional responsibility over Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea and The Gambia, made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra on Sunday.

He said Ghana’s democratic credentials, stability and economic growth makes the desire of his country to invest in these areas feasible.

Mr Seabo said the motivation is based on Ghanaians who have studied in Hungary such as Dr Lawrence Tetteh, an economist and renowned International Evangelist, with the orientation to build a win-win situation in the field of economics and trade relations.

The Ambassador, who arrived in the country on Thursday, July 28 and was received at the Kotoka International Airport by Dr Joseph Agoe, Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had since presented a copy of his credentials to the Sector Minister, Ms Hannah Tetteh.

Mr Seabo, who is a career diplomat and former Africa Director of the Bureau of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry of his country, said Hungary would be seeking co-operation in the field of sports with the hope of tapping the experience of Ghana in football.

He said Hungary would also teach Ghana swimming, water polo and all sports related to aquatics.

He said until 2014 his country had embassies only in Ghana, Ethiopia and Angola, but now the list is becoming wider.

In 1987 Hungary closed its embassy in Ghana due to the collapse of the Soviet Union and focused on European integration.

Mr Seabo said after 25 years the country is exploring relations with countries in the South and continents like Africa and Asia and he is in Ghana as part of measures to reshape the Africa Policy.

He said relations between Ghana and Hungary for the past two years had deepened with the reciprocal visits of the foreign ministers of both countries.

A number of agreements including Economic Co-operation have also been signed providing the legal framework for a Joint Economic Commission.

Mr Seabo said Hungary had offered 50 scholarships to Ghanaian students to study engineering, science, medicine and agro-industry, effective September this year.
