We’re disappointed in the defamation judgment - Owusu

Andrew Owusu to appeal decision Andrew Owusu to appeal decision

Former Ghana athlete, Andrew Owusu, is set to file an appeal against a GHC 500,000 damage against him.

He was found guilty for defamation on Thursday by a fast track high court judge Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah.

Justice Essah awarded GHC 6,000 as cost against Owusu in the case brought by George Haldane Lutterodt for accusing him of being involved in visa racketeering and also exhibiting sheer incompetence during his reign from 2001- 2004 as chairman of the GAA.

Owusu was further ordered to publish a retraction in the Daily Graphic and apologize as well on Radio Gold where he made those allegations but the embattled former jumper thinks an appeal will be necessary.

“It is important to say though, this is allowed under judicial process and therefore we will be filing an appeal as soon as possible.

"Though respectful of the legal process, we are disappointed in the judgment and as I indicated we will be filing an appeal”, he told the press.

Owusu is currently based in the United States and will appeal the decision through his lawyers.
