The Member of Parliament for North Dayi has advised the Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor to focus on measures which will ensure the provision of adequate security and not banning social media.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive on Wednesday with Kaakyere Ofori, George Loh stated that the Inspector General of police John Kudalor should ensure the provision of security since social media is not a threat to the general elections come November 2016.

According to the Member of Parliament, physical policing will do Ghanaians more good than harm and that is what the Inspector General of police should gear his attention towards and not the banning of social media on Election Day. He added that social media has its pros and cons and that it could be useful even on the day of election.

He stressed on the fact that Face Time which is a social media platform helped Turkey during the recent coup attempt. He stated that telecommunication companies will lose a lot should the IGP succeed in banning social media on Election Day.

“Nigeria was able to conduct elections without banning social media, how much more Ghana,” he uttered.

He urged Ghanaians to exercise patience and resort to the court for further interpretation if they deem it necessary and not create confusion.
