EC is doing NDC’s bidding - Sir John

EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei

A former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie alias Sir John has accused officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) of doing the bidding of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He claimed the EC is in bed with the NDC the reason, the former is deliberately been sleeping on its job.

‘All the things that they have to do, they have not, they refused to go by the Supreme court ruling that they should allow NHIS registrants to register, they are always seeing it from the lenses of the NDC, and that is why we are here today,’ he alleged.

He wondered why the NDC has become the mouthpiece of the EC with regards to issues on the voters’ register and other electoral issues.

Speaking on Ultimate breakfast show hosted by Lantam Papanko, Sir John described the chairperson of the EC Madam Charlotte Osei as incompetent.

‘Events that we have seen show that she is not competent, the very day that she was appointed demonstrates to me that she is not competent, either she is competent or deliberately chosen the path of the NDC that leads to death, because they know they will lose the 2016 elections, their last bet is for somebody to help them to steal the elections, she is doing the will of President John Dramani Mahama,’ he alleged.

According to him, the NPP is working around the clock to ensure that it wins power come November general elections.

He believes the elections will be held in December 7, as opposed to November 7, because there are unresolved electoral issues.

‘From the way that I see it, the EC is not ready for November polls, and so it seems to be that it will go into December after all the former presidents J.J Rawlings, J.A Kufour, J. E.A Mills had it in December, and I do not know what else would have changed for us to have it in November especially so when there are so many challenges to do with the registration, we have not yet settled that question, or whether or not we are going to have a new register, of whether or not the EC is going to allow the validation process as we have always maintained, and so there are more questions than answers, and until we have resolved this.

I don’t think that anybody can talk about November polls, I believe the elections will be held in December, the EC needs two thirds of the entrenched clause of Members of Parliament (MPs) voting for that process , I cannot see how they can get two thirds,’ he asserted.
