Police Search Tony Aidoo's Home

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service early Wednesday stormed the house of former deputy minister of defense, Dr Tony Aidoo in search of weapons and other illegal materials. But at the end of the search, the personnel found only one licensed weapon.

Tony Aidoo told JOY FM’s Super Morning Show that about 15 police personnel arrived at his house at 6am and produced a search warrant signed by a Magistrate, Justice Kyeremeh. After about one hour of searching when Joy FM spoke to him, the police had only found one licensed short gun.

Dr Aidoo told JOY FM that he has “never made secret the fact that he has a personal protective weapon” but is baffled “it’s taken this government two-and-a-half years to come and search for the weapon. I licensed the weapon twice, so the police know that I have that weapon”.

Dr. Aidoo was not surprised by the search because he claims “it’s been happening to most members of the NDC for a very long time. As you know, way back in 2001, several premises of NDC functionaries were searched and maybe, it’s my turn, everybody’s turn will come”.

The staunch opposition National Democratic Congress said he suspects that an interview he granted an Accra Radio Station, Adom FM in which he heavily criticised the government on their spending and lifestyle might have triggered the search.

But he was adamant searches like that would not shut him up. “They want to embarrass, to ridicule, to discredit and frustrate Tony Aidoo, but the point is, if they dig a hole, six feet deep and bury me, I will still talk”.

“I will still talk against the nepotism, the tribalism, the fascism, that is going on in the country. The only thing they can do to stop me is to kill me”, he added.
