147 Legon students dismissed

Accra, Sept. 30, GNA - One hundred and forty-seven students of the University of Ghana, Legon, have been dismissed from the University for poor academic performance.

A statement signed by the Deputy Registrar in charge of Academic Affairs, Mr T. Tabi said the affected students failed to attain the University's requirement of a Cumulative Grade Point Average, (CGPA) of 1.50 during the 2002 - 2003 academic year.

The statement said the dismissals were without prejudice to arrangements made by some students in the Faculty of Science to change their programmes to Arts.

The affected students, who are currently in their second and third years, are to submit their receipts of payment of fees for the 2003 / 2004 academic year to the University Finance Officer for refund. Twenty of the students are from the School of Administration, 100 from the Faculty of Science while 26 of the students came from the Faculty of Agriculture and one student from the Faculty of Law. A Ghana News Agency (GNA) survey showed that there was a lot of anxiety among students reading the humanities, as the Faculty of Arts is yet to come out with its list.
