An emergency reinforcement team on Wednesday May 4 moved to retrieve 14 cars stuck on the Afram River, after the ferry carrying them across got stuck on the waterway.

The accident happened on Tuesday May 3 at about 4.30 pm when over 100 people were travelling on the ferry.

The passengers joined a smaller boat when the ferry got stuck leaving their goods, including 14 cars, on board.

Narrating the incident to Class News, the Adawso-Ekye Amanfrom Station Officer, Gideon Brown, said reinforcement from Akosombo was called to rescue the vehicles and the ferry.

“What happened was that yesterday, after loading, we encountered a very strong wind and that wind drifted us and forcibly burst the vessel ashore,” he stated.

“We did all we could to move the vessel but to no avail and the wind continued to blow until 10pm, and we have never experienced such thing before. … We have called for reinforcement from Akosombo, so they are on their way coming. At the moment there are no passengers on board; they have all joined the smaller boat. Only cars are on board and there are 14 cars on board.”
