SOURCE: NPP COMM.------ Dr. Bawumia pointed out that the NDC had increased Ghana’s debt in seven years by GHC90 billion, from GHC9.5 billion at the end of 2009 to some GHC99 billion currently; an equivalent of some 37 billion dollars at the time of borrowing. “First, If you sum the cost of all the loan financed projects listed in the green book (even including those with artistic impressions, it is less than $7 billion. Meanwhile, the government has borrowed the equivalent of $37 billion so where is the rest of the money? Indeed, given the resources at its disposal one should expect at least four times the quantum of investment that the NDC claims to have undertaken”, Dr. Bawumia said, as he began listing the six reasons. Dr. Bawumia proceeded to list a number of things the over 30billion dollars from borrowing the NDC cannot account for, could have done, which proves that contrary to the claims, the NDC has done a bad job at giving Ghanaians their due after undertaking unprecedented borrowing in the last seven years.

I just cannot believe what I have read. That a Senior Lecturer at the Statistics Department of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ezekiel Nii Noye Nortey could be that lazy by relying solely on past election results to make definite prediction of 2016 election as 51.7% and 48.3% for NPP and NDC respectively without consideration for the previous and current relevant factors in the country? He could have predicted a second round victory for NPP without predicting the percentages. Even without considering the relevant factors in each election year, the prediction would still be problematic. The percentages cast serious doubt on his academic and statistical prowess. He has done a disservice not only to himself but the university. This not only lazy work but also lousy and tantamount to academic dishonesty or intellectual bankruptcy.

Professor Nortey must be an interesting character. He said that "he used previous election results,...with assumptions and presumptions to determine the outcome of his work without considering the situations the political parties find themselves in at the moment". Why not consider the other factors like current state of the parties or those will not have any bearing on the outcome. If so why mention it?
My question is of what benefit are his presumptions, etc to us. Frankly, I am yet to find a more ridiculous assessment from any human being.
From this article, it means he himself is not certain about the outcome because he did not consider ALL parameters to arrive at his conclusion.
What type of behavior is this? And he is lecturing at our university. He must be sacked immediately!!!!

The prof has no choice to say the contrary for fear of suspension or ban by the NPP. How on earth could he have said something different since the NPP always suspend people and institutiond with contrary views. All he can do is to deceive them by bringing out figures on assumptions. Indeed this is the deception the NPP need most. Because the hate the truth. Is good for them to walow in this baseless lazyman varandah researh. I have always told myself that i will always disolve a council that praises me for a council that criticeses me as a leader. If you want to know what the polls can achieve, take your mind back to what happened in the last UK general elections. What the polls predicted turned out to be false. The Labour party's hopes of winning were dashed despite the polls which were emphatic it was going to win it. In the end the incumbent Conservative party won it by nearly a landslide. FORGET THE POLLS, especially the type done by the prof, simply extrapolating previous polls. The real shock will hit many people hopes would have been raised so high, by these polls. The real polls are those done on the day of voting.

This is the truth of the analysis that academics will not tell any government.
Remember Prof Nii Noi Norte said two things; 1. His assumptions and presumptions (Ghana English but Ok), then the situation political parties found themselves in.
So what is the situation political parties found themselves in.
It is only the NDC that finds itself in a bad politico-financial situation. AND what are these? You will be surprised how one little thing leads to the other in overthrowing a government.
The NDC may be thinking their slogan of BETTER GHANA is resonating with the populace.
And the huge loans put into infrastructure may make people happy of course petrol prices stable enough to bring electricity generation to manageable levels and "DUMSOR" as we all know it was over.
The constant drumming of "incompetence" in the ears of the electorate, corruption in government, international prisoners in the land and high debt-to-budget ratio may be the only tool for the main opposition including recent in the dent in the Volta votes by the youth of the land coming out boldly to denounce the perception that government can take them for granted without doing tangible things in the region.
For example the issue of Ho roads to the extent that a whole speaker of Parliament Doe Adjaho a son of Volta will have to plead with the Mahama Administration that at least if nothing at all the NDC should do the Hohoe-Likpe roads to honour Dr Obed Asamoah.
Let us go back to 2000 when the NDC lost the stakes were different and there was inertia in the NDC party, people wanted a change but there was not triggers to allow a change so the NPP resorted to a bit of bugga-bugga to bulldoze their way to power and it worked and was very cheap for them.
Today, let's consider all that this government has done around the country infrastructure is tremendous to say the least and schools have been built but one single issue remained and that is the foreign front.
Remember the Ghanaians in the diaspora, these are 5 million people who do most to support the country with funds to their families and do projects to supplement efforts of government.
So in this election cycle it is even easier that the diaspora have been taken for granted. The issuing of Ghanaian PASSPORTS that have caused diasporans pain from this year is the one single issue that will dislodge the NDC government and it is totally an avoidable damage and costs nothing.
So who are the stakeholders to make this possible is it the Ghana Embassies around the world that have locked up passports applications such that there is a lock-jum of passport processing in all embassies that people could not visit Ghana for Christmas, Easter and the GhanaIan past-time activity of funerals?
Such a disturbing situation has upset many and seem negligible to the ordinary person but a majob dent since it affects both the NDC and the NPP but if you leave abroad even as NDC and know very well that a simple thing as passport is what links you to your roots and you can not access that as a person then even the die hard NDC like all of us will say forget it. Let them burn in hell!
Prof Nii Noi Nortey did not state his aaumprions and presumptions but just this one issue if not eliminated immediately especially in the EU and North America soonest will spell doom for this government. It is not going to be the discussions of what President Kufuor said about Keta sea defence wall or did not say about it. And when the results trickle in by in November, 2016 let no one say had I known because it will be too late.
