Captain (rtd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey, a retired Military Officer, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of which he is a member, should have been circumspect in bringing the three South African ex-police officers to train the security personnel of its flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to the former deputy minister of interior in the Kufuor administration, there is nothing wrong with the decision to bring the 3 into the country, but given that the country is heading towards a crucial election with the stakes very high, this form of training should not have taken place at this time.

Speaking in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi, host of TOP FM’s morning show on Tuesday, Effah Dartey, although dissented on the reasons for the arrest of the three SA ex-police officers said the NPP could have been more circumspect in the decision.

“This is an election year and there is so much tension in the country. The security training is good but I think the NPP could have been more circumspect,” he told Ekourba Gyasi.

He further stated that training someone on how to handle guns is not limited to only the military. Other persons who are qualified and licensed can do same.

For this reason, he said the arrest of the 3 ex-police officers, Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (rtd), 54; Warrant Officer Denver Dwayhe, 33, and Captain Mlungiseli Jokani, 45 was wrong.
