Three Lawyers Challenge Senior Minister

A very tough competition for the seat of the Sunyani East constituency is to be witnessed in the months ahead. This follows the intention of Nana Obiri Boahen, a Sunyani-based lawyer and a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Brong-Ahafo Region, to contest for the seat currently occupied by the Senior Minister, Mr J. H. Mensah.

Mr Mensah is likely to face a stiff opposition following indications that two other lawyers, Mr Twumasi Andrah and Mr Ameyaw Kyeremeh, would also be in the race for the seat.

Speaking in an interview with the “Evening News”, Nana Obiri Boahen indicated that his decision to wrestle power from the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) stemmed from the clarion call from the youth in Sunyani who had thrown their weight behind him.

According to him, he had stayed in the periphery for too long and “I feel the time has come, as I have now matured in politics to come into politics to do what Napoleon could not do”.
