George Afriyie backs Hearts to win League

The vice president of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has backed Accra Hearts of Oak to win the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.

The Phobians has started the new season impressively, winning their first two premier league matches against New Edubiase and Medeama SC with stupendous performance, and the Liberty Professionals chairman is convinced the title is theirs to lose.

Hearts of Oak appointed Kenichi Yatsuhashi last year to replace Herbert Addo, and the decision met a public outcry.

It was described as ‘visionless’ by football pundits and a section of the media, whilst other football administrators termed the decision ‘the falling standard of the Oak tree.’

But the Japanese-American trainer is wowing football-loving fans and the media with super football accompanied with results, and George Afriyie says he never doubted the abilities Mr. Kenichi and has thrown his weight behind the 2000 CAF Champions League winners to end their seven-year premier league barren run.

“When they appointed him, there were lot of noises. I called some my journalists friends to water down on their criticism,” he told Accra-based Starr FM

“I told them it was too early to criticised the man.

“Now from what he is doing and with the support of the Japanese community in Ghana, trust me I tip Hearts of Oak to win the league crown.”

Hearts of Oak will travel to Cape Coast to face Ebusua Dwarfs on Match Week Three of the GPL.
