Only cheap Mahama, NDC will import Gitmo Two - NPP

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

Nana Obiri Boahen, the deputy general secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said the two Guantanamo Bay ex-detainees will vanish if NPP comes to power.

According to Nana Obiri Boahen, to accept ex-Guantanamo Bay prisoners in Ghana is "wrong and dangerous” and there is no way NPP will accept these terrorists in the country if “were in power”.

The two ex-detainees, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby, arrived in Ghana on Thursday, January 7, 2016, for a two-year stay as part of a deal reached between the United States of America and the Government of Ghana.

The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), told Sunyani-based Radio Metro 90.5fm that President Mahama is pocketing million from the government of the United States of America in connection with the transfer of two, so there is no way he can send them back.

“If NPP, CPP, PPP, and other Political Parties were in Power, they will not go for these two ex-detainees, only cheap NDC and Akua Donkor party who take the citizens of this country for a ride would act in ways that can have serious consequences on the nation’s safety and security”, he said.

When Henry Lord, the host, told the deputy scribe that the Concern Clergy and Christians of Ghana (CCCG), quoted from the Bible that; not all ex-convicts are criminals because in the Bible, people like; Joseph (Genesis. 39:20-23), John the Baptist (Mark 6:17-20), Jesus (Luke 22:54-71) were all ex-convicts, including apostles such as Peter (Acts 12:1-10), Paul (Acts 16:23-34), Nana Obiri Boahen pointed out that “the Concern Clergy and Christians of Ghana (CCCG) accusing other religious leaders of failing Ghana because they asked President Mahama to return two ex-Guantanamo detainees in Ghana, have been financially motivated.

Meanwhile, Former Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Brong Ahafo, John Owusu Agyemang has said those religious leaders who are calling on President Mahama to return the ex-convicts and urging Ghanaians to demonstrate against the ex-detainees are fake and false prophets.

“This shows that they cannot preach people to repent and transform from their sins, if they think the two ex-Gitmo detainees are terrorist, they should have sought for where they are to preach them to change from their sins but not asking them to return to their country as they are doing”.

“Fake and false prophet should remember what the bible said on Mark 12:31 said ‘Love your neighbor as yourself, There is no commandment greater than these” he added.

He said, “it is disappointing for the clergymen and religious groups who are supposed to preach peace and compassion, to be hopping from one radio station to another and championing the deportation of the ex-detainees”.
