Ghana ace Andre Ayew has commended Gabonese international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for winning African Footballer of the year award.

Ayew was in contention with the Borussia Dortmund attacker for the footballer of the year award after both players excelled for their Club and country in 2015.

The Ghana international could not win the award after finishing third behind Ivorian international Yaya Toure who also placed second.

The former Olympique Marseille star despite missing out on the accolade has applauded his competitor (Aubameyang) for his achievement.

“God is great,” he tweeted on Saturday reflecting on last Thursday’s event.

“3rd place for the 2nd time in my career. I know Ghanaians and my fans were waiting for the 1st place and that was my goal just like the AFCON,” Ayew said.

“But I will work hard to make my country and fans proud. Congratulations to my brother Aubameyang for winning and my big brother Yaya Toure for all what he has done for our continent,” the Ghanaian star added.

The Swansea City will be looking forward in winning the title next year having missed out on two occasions.
