Injuries ... pheew! An inevitable part of the game of football. Something every player dreads. Some Ghanaian players were, however, unfortunate in the year 2015 as they had to battle for fitness in most part of the year.

The senior national team of Ghana has missed him. Juventus have missed him. The football world has missed Kwadwo Asamoah.

When news broke out ending 2014 that the midfielder will miss the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury, it was a sad moment for Ghana.

Not nearly as sad as Kwadwo Asamoah’s injury has proved to be after a year of that news. The Juventus player has made just three league appearances for the Italian Champions this season.

Asamoah has also not represented Ghana Black Stars for the entire year of 2015. Unregistered for the UEFA Champions League group stages, Asamoah’s year has been horrible in football terms. No games not for his lack of talent but just an injury troubling year.

Christian Atsu is yet to play his debut game for AFC Bournemouth and that tells how hard that injury has hit the Ghanaian winger. Having not got enough games on his loan spell at Everton, Chelsea sent Christian Atsu to new Premier League boys AFC Bournemouth. The Ghanaian impressed for his preseason games with the club, readily fit for the new season. Then bang! Atsu sustains an injury before the opening week of the Premier League season. Then an aggravation to that injury sustained. A visit back to parent club Chelsea to achieve full fitness.

Six months on, Christian Atsu is yet to play a single Premier League game this season. All he ha,s is a couple of League Cup games in between his supposed fit states.

The injuries have cost Christian Atsu in 2015 as the Ghanaian would have been a regular at Bournemouth based on his preseason performances.

The former Chelsea and AC Milan player made his official debut for Greek side Panathinaikos in November after transferring to the club in the summer transfer all because of injuries.

The 32-year-old Ghana international whose last days with AC Milan were not entirely devoid of time on the treatment table had to struggle back to fitness at his new club in Greece.

Essien is back to full fitness now, but his entire 2015 year was rocked with injuries.

The name might have probably disappeared from some Ghanaian football minds. And this is why it is sometimes understandable to when players put some personal interest ahead of playing for the senior national team of Ghana.

Jerry Akaminko was a regular for the Black Stars until his 2014 FIFA World Cup dream was crushed due to an injury sustained in the warm-up games ahead of the tournament.

The player did return from the lengthy time out on the treatment table but has struggled in this year as full fitness has proved a problem.

The Ghanaian defender has made just four appearances in the league for his Turkish side Eskisehirspor. Injuries can be so much trouble and unfortunately for Jerry Akaminko, he has been on the receiving end this year.

The FC Lorient player has not been ruled out for a lengthy timeout as other mates in this list have, but the out time due to injury has been too much for what a player would like.

Abdul Majeed Waris’ season at Trabzonspor was an on-off session as the Ghanaian could not get consistent games without an injury.

The situation has been the same during his time with French Ligue 1 side. The Black Stars forward is a player who gets into his element with consistent games and the injury has not helped.

Injuries are not the best for football players. All the best of fitness for the year 2016.
