Separate Youth And Sports From Education - BBC Reporter

The merger of the ministries of Education and that of Youth and Sports has attracted heated debate in recent times with divergent opinions being expressed.

The latest to add his voice to the issue is a Ghanaian BBC Reporter, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah. During his usual weekly report to Space FM last Saturday, Yaw did not mince words expressing his utmost disapproval to the merger of the two ministries. In his submission, he referred to Education and sports as the heartbeat and passion of the nation respectively. He wondered how the two ministries with such heavy schedules could be manned by one person.

He cited South Africa and Australia as some of the nations embarking on vigorous Sports development programmes. He urged Ghana to learn from these countries. He added that Ghana can no longer be considered as sports Nation unless special emphasis was placed on Sports.!

In a related development, Yaw expressed his total disgust and abhorrence about meddling sports with politics. He bemoaned the attitude of Sports administrators who use their offices to pursue their selfish interests to the detriment of the nation at large. He further remarked that the situation whereby appointments are based on political affiliations and sycophancy should belong to the past if we want to recapture our lost GLORY
