The New Patriotic Party has refuted claims that its National General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has been suspended.

According to the party, those claims are unfounded as its Disciplinary Committee which is considering a petition asking for Mr Agyepong’s suspension, is yet to make any recommendation on the matter that has grabbed headlines in the last weeks

Last week, media reports quoted anonymous sources within the Party suggesting that the Disciplinary Committee has recommended to the National Executive Council to suspend Mr Agyepong whose conduct is said to be against the interest of the Party that has been rocked with internal bickering over power.

“As a party, if such a decision has been taken, you should expect that the party will issue a formal statement like we did in the case of Mr. Afoko…so I don’t know where this information is coming from,” Director of Communications, Nana Akomea, told TV3’s Jonathan Adams.

“What I suspect, maybe, is that, the Disciplinary Committee intends to make this recommendation to the National Executive. That could be plausible [but] I don’t know,” he added.

He said the Party is following the legal processes provided for by the Party in the petitions that are being considered, indicating this has not in any way affected the work if the various organs. “I haven’t heard any organ of the Party that is not doing its work because there is some talk about suspension,” he said.

At the end of the day, there are legal processes provided for by the Party. Now if the following the legal processes why should there be an issue?”
