Rename streets for smooth implementation of Health Insurance

Accra, July 21, GNA - The African Youth Command (AYC) on Monday asked the government to rename streets and houses for the smooth implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). A statement by the Command in Accra signed by its President Dr F. W. A. Akuffo said the process would facilitate an easy mechanism through which the individual could be identified and also to prevent impersonation and cheating. The statement said it appreciated government's efforts to replace the cash and carry system with the NHIS and the successful operation of over 20 local Mutual Health Insurance establishments in the country but said there could be a bigger problem in the process if there were no proper way of identification. "Our residential address system is obsolete. Our citizens registration is only limited to that of births and deaths and not even related to residential addresses." "The AYC is, therefore, calling for the naming of all streets, lanes and even footpaths. We suggest that all buildings should have simple numbers to relate to these streets and lanes", it said. The statement said the establishment and operation of the mechanism to identify each individual specifically had other numerous uses and benefits and must be undertaken as a matter of urgency.
