NPP was not against divestiture-Commey

Gomoa Ankamu, C/R, July 19, GNA - Mr Lord Commey, National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) has said the party was not against the divestiture of state own enterprise when it was in opposition. He said the party's philosophy was to empower individuals and organizations in the country to practice capitalism towards the transformation of the economy. Mr Commey expressed these sentiments at Gomoa Ankamu during his interaction with members of Gomoa West constituency branch of the party as part of a tour to the Central region. He said if divesting of some state owned enterprise could help resuscitate the country's economy, the government would do so in transparency.

Mr Commey said the NPP criticised the divestiture of state own enterprises by NDC because the policy was dubiously implemented and some of the funds from the exercise went into individual pockets. He said the party would strictly abide by its manifesto despite the NDC's opposition to the NPP. Mr Commey said despite the harsh economic conditions, the government would not implement severe policies and programmes. He said the NPP would win more than 140 parliamentary seats and also secure 80 per cent votes for President John Agyekum Kufuor in the 2004 General Elections. Mr Ben Adjei-Afull, Gomoa West Chairman of the party, said the constituency executives have embarked on intensive membership drive to enable the party win more supporters.
