Boafo appeals to students to set up economic enterprises

Kumasi, July 17, GNA- Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, has appealed to polytechnic students to take advantage of the many opportunities under the African Growth Opportunities Act (AGOA) and sell some of their handiworks on the world market especially in the United States (US).

In a speech read on his behalf at the launch of Entrepreneurship Week of the Liberal Arts Department of the Kumasi Polytechnic, Mr Boafo said if they took advantage it would open up the Ghanaian market to investors.

Besides that, he said, it would help to source funds for those students who were desirous of setting up their own businesses but lacked capital.

The Week, which also showcases an exhibition of the student's handiwork, has the theme: "Entrepreneurship Education, A Critical Component of National Development".

Some of the exhibits included mushroom cubes and sausages, snail cubes and sausages, grass cutter cubes and sausages, traditional plebeian sandals, batik and tie and dye.

Mr Boafo said self-employment was very important to the government as is evidenced in the recent training of many unemployed youth at the various training centres in the country.

He appealed to the students to set up joint ventures and take advantage of the counselling opportunities and get a better insight into how to set up economic ventures under the Business Advisory Centre (BAC).

"When you are in groups it is easier to have access to funds than operating on individual basis," Mr Boafo said.
