Deputy Ghana Black Stars Coach Maxwell Konadu has charged Ashgold to make Ghana proud at next season’s CAF Champions League.

Since Hearts of Oak won the CAF Champions League in the year 2000, the farthest any Ghanaian club has reached is the money zone (Group stage) when Berekum Chelsea advanced to the group stage in 2012.

Coach Bashir Hayford’s side will play in Africa’s top inter-club competition after winning the Ghana Premier League last season for the first time in 19 years.

However knowing the difficulty in participating in the CAF Champions League and the domestic League, the Local Black Stars head trainer has urged the miners to make the country proud in Africa.

“I encourage Ashgold and their management to do well next season because in Ghana we need a team to go to Africa and make us proud,” Konadu told Citi fm.

“Winning the league is one thing and maintaining it is another, they have to plan ahead, now they will play in Africa and at the same time play in the Local League that is where the difficulty comes they have to plan and strategize very well to do well in Africa and also do well in the League it not easy.”

Ashgold reached the grand finals of the CAF Championship in 1997 losing to Raja Casablanca on penalties.
