Ghana School of Law must be scrapped – Lawyer

Lawyer Kwame Gyan Lawyer Kwame Gyan

A senior lawyer and lecturer at the University of Ghana, Kwame Gyan, is calling for the abolishment of the Ghana School of Law.

According to him, the school of law has become needless bureaucratic hurdle that hinders brilliant individuals from becoming lawyers.

Processes and admissions into the Ghana School of Law has become a matter of public concern in recent times with some arguing that the enrollment process is often riddled with favoritism and corruption.

Speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Thursday, the outspoken lawyer said the process of recruiting students into the Ghana School of Law is archaic and must be abolished.

“What I think we should do is; we should scrap the Ghana school of law which is just a school, and the general legal council will remain. So the law school will not teach courses but will be an examining body acting for and on behalf of the general legal counsel.

“So if you want to write the bar exam, the general legal counsel with the law school acting as the implementing authority will organise the exams. So there shouldn’t be anything like the Ghana School of Law,” he stated.
